Mind of a Champion

There are many theories about the mindset of a champion. Some sau that it is someone who works hard, some say it is someone who has big goals, others think that they have great mindset training and talent. But really, the mindset of a champion is three letters: W-I-N.

This past weekend we had a tournament. We were up against a team that has beaten us every time in semi-finals. It’s single elimination tournament. So we lose we go home. I felt that we should be in the finals. I was trying to figure out how to get us both into the finals. The other coach said to me: we will just have to win. And this woke me up. We were not here to get to finals, we were here to win. When you think this way, you realize that it doesn’t matter if it its quarter or semi or first round, you came to beat everyone.

It is the way that second place people think. They want the smooth road to the finals to say they made it to the finals. The champions don’t care about the finals, they care about the championships and they plan to beat everyone. This is part of the psychological edge. The opponent and they both know that the champion came to win and in someways it predetermines the outcome.

So in the future, don’t worry about who the other wrestler is or what round it is. Focus on each match like it is the last one. You are there to beat everyone, because that’s what champions do, they beat everyone.
