Patrick Henry has had a lot of firsts in my tenure as Coach. Over the past five years we had two brothers qualify for state championships. We hosted National Champions and Olympic level coaches at our camps and clinics. We hosted our first tournament and beach wrestling championships. We helped start the San Diego Middle School Wrestling league and were one of the first to create a kids program in San Diego unified and created the first San Diego Unified 501c3 registered wrestling non profit. However, yesterday we took a big step towards making Patrick Henry truly a part of the San Carlos/Allied Gardens/Del Cero community.

Last night over 80 wrestlers and parents joined us for our 2026/2027 Season Meeting. About 10 parents stayed to create our first ever Wrestling Booster. For the first time, Patrick Henry Wrestling will go from a coach lead, to a community lead program. This is important because Parent Booster is what makes Cheer, Football, La Crosse and Baseball at Patrick Henry not just a school sport but a community team. From now on, Patrick Henry wrestling will no longer just represent the coaches and the school, but an entire community.

This will strengthen us in many ways. Parents will now have impact by being able to fundraise, host events for wrestlers and parents. They will now have say and influence with the administration and district. This will strengthen the wrestling by giving a lot of valuable coaching time back to the coaches, helping us focus on the wrestlers, time that will directly improve their ability on and off the mat.

We are very excited of what this will do for the community and our wrestling program and can’t wait to see the positive effects on wrestlers and community that this change will bring. Wrestling at Patrick Henry will no longer be just a sport team, it will now be an institution.

“People ask me what I do when there’s no wrestling. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for November.”
