Mira Mesa/Titians JV and Londos

Patriots this week brought a lot of intensity and heart and showed a lot of improvement.

First we had our best showing against the dominant team in the San Diego Conference. The team was 52-26 but in reality only two matches away from a win in spite of two forfeits. Girls also had a much better performance. Our mostly novice team wrestled hard and JV girls even eeked out a pin! JV boys had no wins last year, this year we had several wins and a few close loses.

JV competed at the JV Titans. Most wrestlers managed to get at least one win and several were a match away from placing. Senior and first time wrestler Krishan Avila placed 4th, showing a lot of heart and improvement.

Varsity competed on Saturday at the Jim Londos Memorial in Orange Glen. We filled 10 weight classes out of 14 with a few wrestlers sitting out this tournament. In spite of this, the team placed third for the first time in many years at a major tournament, with 145 points, trailing after Brawley and Rancho Bernardo, two San Diego power houses. Ayden Ventura (Fr,154lb), Justin Willard (Jr,161lb) and Abdullah Alshami (Sr,136lb) and Cole Stephenson (Sr,194lb) took 5th. Senior Zakariah Safi (285lb) placed 4th and Van Alvarez (Sr,217lb) took third. There were also two finalists: Nicholas Arambula (Jr, 148lb) took second and Ethan Vinoray (Sr, 130lb) took first as well as the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

It was a great week and we plan to continue to improve upon the success. This week Patriots have a league match at Scripps Ranch on Wednesday. On Saturday Girls will compete at Queen of the Realm at San Marcos HS and Boys Varsity will be at San Pasqual Tournament.

Go Patriots!
