2nd Annual Peter Gidlund Memorial Expands

Last year, Patriots hosted their first tournament in exactly 40 years. It was the 10th anniversary of Peter Gidlund’s passing, an alumni who wrestled for the Oregon State Pac 10 Championship team. This year the tournament had an attendance from 14 schools with 14 boy teams and 11 girl teams. The tournament was more competitive as some JV level wrestlers were allowed and it included more competitive teams like Imperial High School and Fallbrook.

Patrick Henry placed 5th with three girls and five boys competing. This year the team had 7 placers out of the eight wrestlers, with the first ever Gidlund champion, Zoe Diaz and two boys finalists who placed second including freshmen Brendon Capshaw and sophomore George Estaquio. Other placers included Annasophia Caballos in 3rd, Amelia Morgan 2nd, Seth Carling 5th and Bodie Collins 6th. Seth Carling took 5th with five matches, three of them won by pin.

Gordon and Linda Gidlund were in attendance and presented medals to the winners. The tournament is dedicated to Metnal Health and Coach Bernie Miles gave a speech to start the tournament to remind parents and wrestlers to seek help before it is too late.
