Senior Night Close Win Over UC: 34-33.

Last year, Patrick Henry beat UC by a wide margin, with nearly every wrestler pinning the opponent. UC under ex-Patrick Henry alum and ex PH coach worked hard all year and came to avenge their loss. Their team was bigger and came ready to wrestle.

The Patriot lineup on the other hand suffered some losses due to injuries compared to the lineup from last year. With three varsity wrestlers sitting out, every match and every point mattered.

The night started off with a senior send-off for eight patriots including Jared Hollander, Owen Heising, Jake Lozano, Derek Nguyen, Roy Rivas, Jayden Davis, and the managers Katy Cagle and Giulia Tarantino.

Patriots got off to a good start with Jared Hollander, freshman Thomas Luhta and junior Dominic Perez winning their matches. Henry 106 pound Mikey Krause was one win away from a league championship but an aggravated previous injury. In spite of the pain, Krause did his best, losing to the UC opponent by only a couple of points. Alex Adler also lost by a single point in a tough match against the toughest wrestler in the league and Barrett Talbot lost in a match he was winning when he got caught in a pin.

It didn’t look good when first-year wrestlers Francisco Gonzalez, Erik Kylstatd also had a tough time with their opponents but Roy Rivas turned the tide with a close win over the UC rival. The team win was cemented when Senior Jake Lozano beat his opponent and first-year wrestlers Reid Muscat and Koa Altmeyer pinned theirs securing a one-point lead over UC.

The win was a great end and relief to the home crowd, celebrating the last home match for the seniors.
