Hopes dashed at Mira Mesa, Two Place at Jim Londos.

For eleven straight seasons, Mira Mesa High School continues to dominate the Western City League. Henry, with 11 league championships has not won League since 2011. This was going to be the Patriot’s year with two state-ranked wrestlers. But the season did not go as planned with big losses in the lineup in part due to Covid restrictions and in part due to injuries.

Senior Roy Rivas after winning his match

Patriots put up a good fight but with only four wrestlers with more than two years of experience it was going to be an uphill battle.

In the end, Patriots gave up two forfeits and five pins, losing the dual 46 to 22. Seniors Jared Hollander, Roy Rivas, Jake Lozano and Dominic Perez won their matches and Mikey Krause won by forfeit. Krause, Hollander and Perez are still undefeated in league making the three wrestlers one win away from an individual League championship.

Jim Londos at Orange Glen

Eight Henry wrestlers went to the Jim Londos tournament at Orange Glen on a rainy January 15th. With three freshmen in the lineup, the team managed to score 40 points falling into a disappointing 16th place, falling behind many teams that Henry have beaten in dual match-ups during the season.

Sophomore Alex Adler was within a hair of taking 1st place losing in overtime in the semi-final match. He fought back through consolation pinning Fallbrook but lost in overtime to Otay Ranch earning fourth place, improving on his last week’s match against the same wrestler at Hilltop.
