Week 3

Week two was a tough week for Patrick Henry in many ways.
Patrick Henry traveled to three away quad and tri-meets competing with eight schools and a tournament on Saturday.

The team is still missing two of its varsity wrestlers due to the ongoing football season as Patrick Henry football is fighting for state championships.

The team on Tuesday battled to a close loss to Cathedral Catholic after senior Roy Rivas had an injury forfeit and a tough loss by junior Brandon Reed who lost in overtime with three blood time stoppages.

The team beat Torrey Pines and Canyon Crest with a big but heart-breaking match between Canyon Crest Kai Pellegrino and Patrick Henry’s Elijah Vinoray who beat Pelegrino in spite of a tough season-ending injury.

On Wednesday team traveled to Grossmont High School the next day where Football Wrestlers Jarred Hollander and Dominic Perez came back for the match helping Patrick Henry beat both Grossmont and Santana High School.

On Thursday Patriots went to Madison High School four varsity wrestlers short and were not able to beat two of the toughest teams in San Diego: Eastlake and Holtville, coming back home with just one win against Madison. A notable match was by freshman Xavier Gonzalez who won an overtime match with a takedown.

Saturday the team participated in the Mar Vista High School Battle By The Beach. Three Patriots brought home medals: Mikey Krause with a 2nd, Barrett Talbot with a fourth and a first-year wrestler Koa Altmeyer won third place. Two other wrestlers, senior Jake Lozano and sophomore Francisco Gonzalez placed fifth. Almost every wrestler won a match, pushing the young team into 6th place overall with 15 pins in one day.

It was a tough week on the team and wrestlers but the team isn’t slowing down, this week on Monday the team takes on Chula Vista and Mountain Empire at home and then wrestlers at the Carlsbad Invitational on Saturday.
